How Dexter fixes it

Over the years, central heating systems collect black sludge, rust and scale. It settles at the bottom of radiators, blocks pipes and valves, and makes the boiler work harder. The signs are radiators that are cold at the bottom, rooms that take a long time to warm up and a boiler that kettles or bangs.

A power flush pumps cleaning chemicals through the whole system at high flow, radiator by radiator, until the water runs clear. Dexter then refills the system with inhibitor to protect it, and fits a magnetic filter if there is not one already, so the sludge does not build up again. The photos below show what comes out of a typical system.

A power flush is often done when a new boiler goes in, to protect the new boiler and its warranty.

your questions

WhatsApp Dexter
Does a power flush damage old pipes?

A power flush can reveal existing weak points in very old systems. Dexter looks at the system first and tells you if he has any concerns.

How long does a power flush take?

Usually most of a day, depending on the number of radiators.

Is a power flush included with a new boiler?

Every new boiler includes a chemical system flush and a magnetic filter. A full power flush is recommended for heavily sludged systems.

Will a power flush fix every cold radiator?

It fixes cold spots caused by sludge. Cold radiators caused by faulty valves or balancing are dealt with separately.
